Flying with the feet on the ground

Marisa Benjamim is an artist with a special ability of crossing disciplines. One of the newest forms of her work, showed in this exhibition, was inside the performance art frame.

Benjamim exhibition proposed a point of view about a physical and poetic notion of gravity. Installation drawing, video and a live performance were the chosen forms that the artist decided to exhibit.

Inside these different disciplines, the artist proposed several important points of discussion about the act of drawing. She worked drawing as medium to reach a fine reality of gravity. By drawing not only in a two-dimensional form, but inserting her body, its movement and a detailed video recording she could behave a ritualistic form of drawing by place herself around several leafs in the ground, marking her passage through them. These marks were a form of gravity based on the natural falling of leafs from a three.

As a final stage of Benjamim exhibition, the artist proposed a live performance. These composition of actions created a very strong and delicate moment, were she could suspend again herself, in moments were gravity became poetry.
She created an hybrid form, with her body and the natural elements of the performance, by involving movement and matter and changing their space and reality into something that can be defined as invisible weight.

Flying with the feet on the ground was the confirmation of the special skills of the artist and a reason to believe that Performance art will be a very interesting form of dialogue for the artist.
